History
Ultima Financial Planners history goes back to 1992 when Gerrit Viljoen Finansiële Adviesdienste (Pty) Ltd was founded.
Gerrit is active in the financial planning industry since 1986 and started Ultima with the focus to provide personalised financial advice, financial planning and retirement planning as well as financial services to people looking for financial freedom and peace of mind.
Ultima was founded in 2000, incorporating Gerrit Viljoen Finansiële Adviesdienste (Pty) Ltd.
In a bold move at the time, Ultima became one of the first companies to adopt the approach where financial planning and advice is offered as a professional fee-based service. This service model puts the emphasis on objectivity where financial advice, financial and retirement planning is provided with the best interest of the client at heart, and not on the basis of selling financial products.
Over the past 20 years, Ultima has grown into a reputable brand and financial partner.
We are trusted for our expertise, distinguished and personalised service. We truly care about your future, helping you to build a meaningful life and enjoy lifelong peace of mind.
Core Values
Unashamedly Ethical
Being Unashamedly Ethical is the heartbeat of our core values. As an underlying principle behind the way in which we work, it defines us and what we stand for. We are committed to walking an ethical path with our clients, making decisions that are led by integrity while providing distinguished service and care at all times.
With your needs in mind, our advice might not always be the easiest to follow but it will always be in your best interest, enabling you to create a meaningful life and enjoy lifelong peace of mind.
Loving Relationships
Building dynamic loving relationships is the lifeblood of our business. We sincerely care about each client and about each other, keeping individual needs at the forefront of our thoughts and actions.
We place strong emphasis on personalised service and the longevity of our relationships is our measure of success. Our client relationships go beyond just business to heart and soul – who we are, what we do and how we do it.
At Ultima, we take time to identify and develop staff members’ individual gifts and talents while encouraging each other to grow professionally and personally.
Trust
We believe that trust and truth are inseparable – and personal. The trust we continue to earn is deeply rooted in who we are and the way we interact with our clients and work with our partners.
Impartial
We are committed to our clients’ future. Combining years of experience in financial and retirement planning with an aptitude for wealth creation, we provide objective and independent financial advice, helping each client to create a meaningful life.
Mindful
We are mindful through humility and objectivity. We value openness and use every opportunity to learn more about our clients and their needs. Continuously seeking to improve and simplify the way we work, we learn from our successes and mistakes in equal measure.
All Work is Worship
As a Kingdom business, we are guided by the mindset that all work is worship. We work with an attitude of serving that is led by the needs of each client. We are ultimately accountable to God and continuously strive for meaning. We fully realise our responsibility and greatly value the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of those we serve.

The competition constitutes of three rounds, with round one comprising the submission of entries together with a portfolio of evidence that includes a detailed financial plan based on the well-known FPI six-step financial planning process and marked by an independent panel of judges. The second round involves a Panel Site Visit to the entrants’ businesses and assessments being done on all aspects of FAIS’s compliance, practice management as well as all client documentation and the financial planning processes. The financial plans are further authenticated during these site visits. The competition progresses to the panel Interviews which is considered to be the final round of the process. Finalists are required to present to a panel on a selected topic and are questioned on a variety of industry trends, topics, technical information and legislative changes.
Financial Planners at Ultima adopt global best practices in financial planning, offer fee-based professional financial planning and continuously improve services to stay relevant and ensure clients lifelong peace of mind.
