Ultima is involved in a number of community initiatives in and around Pretoria, and this month we want to share with you our contribution in Vastfontein Community Transformation.
Situated in the Hammanskraal area, Vastfontein was established in 1998 with only a handful of employees and 10 children attending Sunday school in a shed. Since then, the organisation has developed and grown with leaps and bounds.
Passionate about community transformation, they define their vision as follows:
“Our vision is to assist people to reach their dreams and build a better future. We raise, educate and equip future leaders from communities in need. Our focus is on educating children in our Pre-Primary (Early Childhood Development), Primary and High school.”
The primary focus is community transformation and achieving that through the establishment, continuous development and maintenance of:
- A school
- Care homes
- A school for Church Planting
- A wellness centre
- A thriving congregation
- An adult training centre focused on agricultural training
- Digital hub offering digital connectivity and communication facilities
Each care home has a house mom and six children. The School for Church Planting educate lay pastors while the adult training centre provides training for micro farmers in collaboration with AFGRI.
The Wellness Centre has three full-time social workers, occupational therapists and a child psychologist who volunteer their time on a weekly basis. A volunteer doctor works in the clinic every Friday. From time to time the school is turned into a playground for children to interact not only academically but also socially.
Ultima supports their cause by making monthly contributions and interacting with the staff and children on a semi-regular basis.
We are excited about their vision and love the manner in which they tackle every obstacle with faith and trust in the Lord. They really make a much needed difference in the Hammanskraal community!
